The DeliveryChild
A Fairy Tale about Work, Money, and a Cherry Bun. Children’s stories for growing children and young parents.
My name is Mark. I am two years and three days old, but I am already a very important person! Mama says I am her helper. And not just a helper, but a delivery child! That’s because my stroller and I are always by her side when she works. Mama is a courier. A courier is someone who brings important things. Papers in rustling envelopes, parcels in big and small boxes, treasures wrapped in magical bubble-wrap and tape — people wait for all of this, because these are not just things, they are needed things, in the right place and at the right time.
Today we have a big workday. One long walk. Three hours at least. Maybe with a snack or lunch on the way. Maybe even a nap. We already had breakfast. I read all five of my favorite books. I showed Mama all the pictures. I let her know I had read. Mama said:
— Mark, let’s go for a walk, put on your work jacket!
That’s my favorite jacket, because in it I am a real professional. I put it on myself, because I know how. I take it from my very own hanger. Pants, socks, and sneakers are my usual ones. And I take a colored chalk with me. I put the chalk in my pocket.
