Если вопрос двойной (например, Where would you like to go and why?), необходимо ответить на обе его части.
— Внимание: задавать вопросы нужно строго по теме-стимулу (например, если друг пишет: «I’ve just bought a new car. Ask 3 questions about his car», вопросы про марку, цвет и цену машины зачтут, а вопрос «Where did you get money for it?» или «Do you like driving?»
(Well, By the way, To sum up, So, Actually, As for me).
— Dear Kevin,
— Hello Kevin, / Hello, Kevin,
— Hi Kevin, / Hi, Kevin,
— Kevin,
— Hi,
— Hi!
Hey!» / «Hey, Kevin»
Thanks for your recent email.
Thanks for your message.
Thanks for writing to me.
Great to hear from you.
I was very glad to hear from you (again).
I’m always glad to get messages from you.
Thanks for your letter. I’m always glad to get letters from you.
Many thanks for the letter! I hope you‘re OK.
Thanks for your message. I was very glad to hear from you.
Thanks for writing to me. Great to hear from you.
Важное замечание ФИПИ: ссылаться на прошлые контакты («I’m sorry I haven’t written for so long») в электронном письме теперь необязательно, но по желанию можно оставить.
— In your email you ask me about… To be honest, I can say that…
— As for your questions,…
— To tell the truth, … / Actually,…
— Speaking of my preferences,…
— In your email you ask me some questions. Let me answer them.
— Well, in your email you ask me some questions. I’m happy to answer them.
— By the way, in your email you ask me some questions. Now it’s time to answer them.
— In your message you asked me some questions, and I’d like to answer them.
— In your email you asked me some questions, here are my answers.
— To tell the truth,
— Honestly speaking,
— Frankly speaking,
— You know…
— You won’t believe it but…
— The thing is that…
— Personally, I…
— In my opinion, = To my mind,
— If you ask me,
— To my surprise,
— Besides,
— For example,
— Fortunately,
— Unfortunately,
— Luckily,
— I think
— I believe
— I guess
— It seems to me that
— As far as I am concerned,
— As far as I can judge,
— As far as I know
— I was happy (sad) to hear about [тема из задания] and I would like to ask you some questions.
— You wrote about [тема из задания] and I would like to ask you some questions.
— By the way, I’ve got some questions.
— By the way, I also want to ask you some questions.
— It’s so nice that you [тема из задания] and let me ask you a few questions.
— As for your news, I have some questions about
— In your email you mentioned [
— I’d like to ask you about
— By the way, I’d like to ask you some questions about
— Anyway, tell me more about
— I’m so happy to hear about your [тема из задания] Could you tell me…
«Oh, what great news!» или «My congratulations!»
Рекомендуется проверить: what, who, where, when, why, how long, how much и время описываемого события.
— (Excuse me, I have to finish because I’m going to gym.) Email me when you’ve got time.
— Write back soon.
— Hope to hear from you soon.
— Please, write to me soon.
— Drop me a line.
— I’m looking forward to your email / to hearing from you.
— Looking forward to your email / to hearing from you.
— Hope to hear from you soon.
— Drop me a line when you can.
Внимание: фразы «I will write you soon», «See you soon» являются обещанием автора письма, а не выражением надежды на то, что друг вскоре ответит ему, и не принимаются в качестве таковых.
— Best wishes,
— All the best,
— With love,
— Yours,
— Alex
— Maria

It’s a great way to learn the value of money and become more mature.
Your school trip sounds exciting! Which history museum are you going to visit? How long will the excursion last? Will you go there by bus or on foot?

In my opinion, the most important qualities in a friend are honesty and loyalty. When a conflict happens, I usually try to calm down first and then talk about the problem openly. Honestly, it’s not very easy for me to make peace because I can be quite stubborn, but I always apologize if I’m wrong.
How wonderful for your cousin! What breed is the puppy? What name did they give it? Who is going to train and feed the dog?
Hope to hear from you soon.

I completely understand how hard it is to move, so stay positive!
Actually, it’s quite easy for me to make friends because I’m an outgoing person. You know, in Russia, teenagers usually meet people at school, sports clubs, or through social media. Honestly speaking, if you want to find friends in a new place, I advise you to join a local sports team or a hobby club. It’s much easier to start a conversation when you have something in common.
By the way, I love science fiction! What is the title of the movie? Did you like the special effects? Who played the main character?
Write back soon.

When a conflict happens, we find a compromise by sitting down together and talking calmly. I try to listen to their advice, and they try to respect my personal space.

Answering your questions, I don’t mind when friends borrow my things, as long as they return them in good condition. Personally, I have had a serious argument with my classmate once. We had a misunderstanding during a school project and stopped talking for a week. We solved it when I invited him to a cafe, and we simply explained our feelings to each other.
Good luck to your sister with her new hobby! Who is teaching the photography course? How many times a week does she attend it? Does she use a professional camera?

In your message:
— answer his questions;
— ask 3 questions about the restaurant.
Dear Ethan,
How are things going? Thanks for your letter, it’s always a pleasure to receive your updates.
From my point of view, this rule is actually quite fair because it teaches you that money requires effort. Regarding my situation, my parents give me a fixed amount every Sunday for my basic needs. If I urgently need extra money for an expensive gadget or a concert ticket, I try to save up from my weekly allowance or find a temporary summer job.
The Italian restaurant sounds lovely! Where exactly is it located? Is the interior modern or traditional? What dish did you like the most?
Write back soon.
Best wishes,
Mikhail

As far as I’m concerned, our weekends are usually quite active. We often go for walks in the local park or visit the cinema. We do have family dinners, but mostly on special occasions like birthdays. If you ask me about my preferences, I definitely prefer going out with my friends because we share the same hobbies, though I still enjoy quiet evenings with my parents.
Your uncle’s business sounds like a great venture! Where exactly is his coffee shop located? What types of desserts does it serve? Is the interior design modern?

Hi Daniel,
Thank you for your letter. I was happy to hear from you again. This smartphone issue is a very common problem nowadays!
To be honest, I spend about an hour a day talking to my parents, usually during dinner. We normally discuss my school performance, future plans, and latest news. In my view, technology doesn’t spoil relationships if people use it wisely. Smartphones actually help us stay in touch when my parents are at work, so they can be very useful.
Happy anniversary to your parents! Where are you going to celebrate it? How many guests have you invited? Will there be a big cake?
Write back soon.
Best wishes,

Congrats to your brother! How many players took part in the tournament? What was the main prize? Was the final game difficult for him?

Regarding your questions, yes, I have a lovely golden retriever. In my family, we share the duties, but I am the one who usually walks him and washes his paws. I absolutely agree that having a pet teaches children responsibility. When you look after a living creature, you learn to think about someone else’s needs, which is a great life lesson.
That’s wonderful news about the Bolshoi Theatre! What performance are you going to watch? Is it a ballet or an opera? Who chose the tickets?
Write back soon.

Hi Lucas,
Thank you for your letter. I was happy to hear from you again. Don’t worry, we all forget things sometimes, but calling them is important!
To answer your questions, I call my grandparents twice a week, and we visit them during summer holidays. We normally talk about my school project success, their health, and different stories from their youth. Personally, I believe it’s crucial for teenagers to support older relatives because they often feel lonely and need our attention and love.
Awesome news about your school team! What was the final score of the match? Who scored the winning points? How did you celebrate the victory?
Write back soon.

When we are together, we really enjoy riding bikes, having barbecues in the countryside, or playing board games. In my opinion, some teenagers avoid family events because they find them boring, or they just want more privacy and independence from their parents’ control.

Well, my main hobby is constructing model aeroplanes, which I have been doing since early childhood. I usually spend about five hours a week on it and use my pocket money to buy new parts. To be honest, my parents fully support my passion, and my friends are always genuinely happy to get these models as birthday presents.
It is great that your elder brother is coming back! I have a few questions about him. What college is he currently studying at? Is your brother a good role model for you? How old is he?
Write back soon.
Best wishes,
Igor

Dear Ronny,
Thanks for your email. It was great to hear from you again.
In your message, you asked me about my free time. Well, I usually spend my leisure hours at home, listening to music or playing online games. When I hang out with my friends, we normally go to a local shopping centre or a nearby park. As for my parents, they are absolutely cool with my friends and get along well with all of them, which is fantastic.
Great news about your history project! I would like to ask you a few questions about it. What specific historical period does your project cover? How long did it take you to find all the necessary facts? Will you present it to your classmates online?
Write back soon.
Best wishes,
Igor

Dear Chris,
Thank you for your letter. I was happy to hear from you again. It must be fascinating to have a celebrity lookalike in your classroom!
To answer your questions, I usually notice a person’s smile and eyes first, as they tell a lot about their mood. Speaking of my own appearance, I’m quite tall and slim, with short brown hair and green eyes. Personally, I don’t care too much about expensive fashion trends, but I always try to look neat and wear comfortable clothes that suit my personality.
By the way, good for your sister! What color is her hair now? Is her new hairstyle short or long? Did she go to a professional salon to change it?
Write back soon.
Best wishes,
Artem

Hi Owen,
Thank you for your letter. I was happy to hear from you again. Having a reliable friend is wonderful, even if they lack a sense of humor!
Regarding your questions, I value honesty and kindness above everything else. As for my negative traits, I absolutely dislike that I am sometimes too impatient and lazy, especially when I have to do homework. In my view, people can definitely change their personality, but only if they work hard on their habits and have strong self-discipline.
Congrats to your brother on his new look! What color is the leather jacket? Is it warm enough for autumn? Was it expensive?
Write back soon.
Best wishes,
Kira
