Perinatal loss is the devastating experience of losing a child during pregnancy or shortly after birth, encompassing miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal death. Unlike many other forms of loss, it is frequently «disenfranchised,» meaning society may not fully validate the intensity of the parents’ sorrow. They mourn not only the child but also the envisioned future milestones and the identity they had begun to build.
